Frequently Asked Questions for Fall Event at Camp Horizon

Q: How much cropping space will I have at Crop Camp?
A: Each person has about 3 to 4 feet of cropping space.

Q: How are the sleeping arrangements at Camp?
A: Most sleeping quarters are bunk style. There are 5 bunk beds in one room so there are usually 10 people sleeping in one room. These rooms are assigned according to the number of people in your group. For example, if we have a group of 5 and a group of 4, those 2 groups would share a bunk room. We have a few more private rooms which are closer to the cropping and dinning rooms. Our croppers that have a handicap are given those rooms first since they are closer to the other facilities.

Q: Do I need to bring my own bedding?
A: Yes. Most of the bunking rooms do not have any bedding provided by the camp. If you bring fitted sheets, the bunk beds are a size twin. If your bedding will be provided by the camp, you will get an email a week before camp to let you know that.

Q: Is there access to ice machine and/or refrigerator?
A: Yes. There is an ice machine and fountain coke products available most of the time in the Dinning Hall. There is a refrigerator and microwave in every cropping room.

Q:  Are snacks provided during Crop Camp?
A: No. So feel free to bring your favorite snack for yourself and/or to share with the building. We do provide coffee, tea, and sodas.

Q:  Is there music in the crop rooms?
A:  Sometimes. It will depend on the building you are cropping in. The music seems to come and go with the mood of the building.

Q: How is the lighting at camp?
A:  The ceilings are not very high in the crop rooms. The lighting is pretty good at each crop space. However, there are a few places that need lamps. Feel free to bring your own lamp with you if you want to.

Q: What is the crop room temperature?
A:  The room temperature will depend on the outside temperature. Believe it or not, we have ran the A/C at camp horizon before. Most of the time, the temperature will be comfortable. You should bring a jacket and short sleeved shirts in case you need them.

Q:  Is there a place for me to plug in my electronics? Like my personal cutter and/or laptop.
A:  Yes. There will be extension cords available for you to use at your crop space.

Q: Are there bugs at camp?
A: Yes, there are bugs at camp. We are cropping in the wilderness after all. J  We have spotted scorpions in the bunk rooms and in the crop rooms in years past. However, we did not see any of them last November. The new camp hosts have been very good about spraying for bugs closer to our event which has helped a lot.

Q: Can we leave our scrapbook stuff out for the whole time I’m at camp?
A: Yes. Some people bring a sheet to cover their scrapbook area when they go to bed. Crop Camp is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Q: What meals are provided at camp and how is the food?
A: We provide a continental breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning which consists of cereal, individual packets of oatmeal, bagels and cream cheese and muffins. The camp staff fixes homemade meals for lunch on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Friday and Saturday night.

Q: Do we crop and sleep in the same building?
A: No. There are three different crop buildings at camp. One is the Dinning Hall which has cropping on one side hosted by Kathy, vendors in the middle and dinning and class instruction on the other side. Then we have the Agape building which is a crop room hosted by Shandra. This building is just down the sidewalk from the Dinning Hall and the private bunk rooms. Then, we have the Oxford building which is a crop room hosted by Alicia. This crop room is not accessible by sidewalks and is up a slight hill from the Dinning Hall. It is the only crop room that doesn’t have a restroom in it. If you are cropping in the Oxford, you will need to go to the Agape or Dinning Hall for restroom use. Each of these crop rooms hosts about 40 croppers.

Q: Is there a price difference if we do not sleep or eat meals at camp?
A: No. We pay the camp a set fee for each person attending. There is the option for you to get a hotel room in Ark City instead of not sleeping at camp. However, your price for camp will not change.

Q: Is there shopping nearby?
A: Yes. Ark City is only 15 minutes from camp. There is a super WalMart and a Scrapbook Store D & S Scrapbooks in town. There are also lots of local shops you should check out on Summit Street if you go to town.

Q: Do you have vendors at camp?
A: Yes. We will have a list of vendors on our web site about a month before camp. There will be a link to their web page if they have one and their email address if they have one.

Q: Is there wireless internet access at camp?
A: Yes. There are two hot spots for wireless. Down at the Cedar bunking rooms and up at the office. The office is just up the hill from the Dinning hall. There is not internet access in the cropping rooms.
